Maine Vibes

I’m not quite sure what it is about Maine, but it intoxicating. The perfect summer weather, mountains, quaint beach communities, people, beer, or the Lobstah, it all adds up to be one of our favorite stops so far. We will be back, and we will stay much longer next time.

Our first stop was Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Come to find out the area is an island with small seaside communities woven into the vast expanse of Acadia NP. No matter where you are on the island, you’re only a couple of minutes from entering the Park. Very cool! We stayed at Smugglers Den Campground on the southwest side of the island, dubbed the quite side by locals as it is far away from Bar Harbor which was packed to the gills during 4th of July week.

Our first morning out we started with a trip to Bass Harbor Headlight lighthouse.

We drove Park Loop road inside Acadia NP while listening to our Gypsy Guide along the way (These guides are a fantastic way to learn about the NP’s while you drive through them.) We stopped and hiked Ocean Trail along the East side of Acadia. The views were fantastic.

We also visited Jordans Pond at sunset where I was able to capture a few gems of the north and south bubbles. Its a beautiful pond carved into the middle of the park by glaciers long ago. Soo peaceful and serene without the daytime crowds.

One of the cool things within Acadia NP are the Carriage Roads. These roads were built throughout the park to allow visitors to view the park by horse and carriage without all the noise and congestion caused by automobiles. The foresight to build these when autos were still of the Model T variety is impressive and the stonework on the bridges blends into the park beautifully.

A few bay bay views from our drives around the island.

Next up, Portland ME for the 4th of July!
