Beaches, Boardwalks, and Beers in Rehoboth Beach

We reluctantly said our goodbyes in PA and headed East to Rehoboth Beach. WE were fortunate to have great tour guides with us as Beth and her family have been visiting here for years. Her sister, Leanne, has a townhome there and entertains family throughout the summer. Did I say she has her own plane? More on that in a moment.

We spent our first afternoon getting settled into our campground and getting a quick tour of the town.

The next morning I was up early to greet the sunrise at Cape Henlopen State Park. It was soo quiet and peaceful, which turns out NOT to be the case when you visit beaches in the area later in the day when crowds of sun worshipers flock to the beaches in droves.

Leanne offered to take us up in her plane for a private tour of the Rehoboth area from above. What a treat!

We spent a couple afternoons at the beach (Rehoboth and Henlopen) which made the girls happy but a bit crowded for my liking.

We followed the Skelnik’s lead and partook in pig-out night down on the boardwalk. Pig-put night is where you eat any and all of the food available from the local vendors. Some of the favorites are fries from Thrashers, cheesesteaks from Gus & Gus’s, and custard from Kohr Brothers.

One other tradition was to go out for crabs, this was a first for Becky, but I think she enjoyed herself. Jim’s buddy Brian joined us for the feast and man, can that dude eat some crab. I think he finished two before we’d even got started.

Add finally, no trip to the Rehoboth area would be complete without a trip to Dogfish Head Brewery for a tour and sampling of their beer. My favorite part, other than the treehouse, was the R&D area, where we got to sample recipes that were in development and provide feedback.

Next, we say goodbye to the Skelniks and slow it down for a couple of days before heading to the Carolinas for more beaches and then some family time.
