The major feature of the park is Bryce Canyon, which despite its name, is not a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. Bryce is distinctive due to geological structures called hoodoos, formed by frost weathering and stream erosion of the river and lake bed sedimentary rock. The red, orange, and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views which change throughout the day.

To take in the uniqueness of the park you need to take a hike down into the Hoodoos and experience them up close. I chose the Queens Garden Loop adding on the Navajo Loop Trail to Wallstreet. I love seeing the contrast between the red, orange, and brown against the blue skies and the hike up on Wallstreet is bit of a challenge. There’s really nothing like it.

On our final afternoon, we took the Scenic Drive, making some of the more popular stops, but the highlight was the Natural Bridge.

Next up…the long trip home.
